At the end of the 18th century, the Russian Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna spent the winter in San Remo thus inaugurating the tradition of Russians traveling to the Riviera for the winter.
She offered the town of San Remo the palm trees that still adorn its lungo mare today.

The end of the 18th century also saw the English elite travel to the Riviera dei Fiori, the West part of the Ligurian Riviera as testified by the marvellous Villa and Gardens of Sir Thomas Hanbury known as Giardini Hanbury.

GENOA: MEDIEVAL HISTORIC CENTRE

It has its own airport and a rich of history.
Genoa is the birth place of Christopher Columbus and was one of the states known as Repubbliche Marinare along Venice, Pisa and Amalfi.
Genoa’s centro storico is one of the most extended medieval Historic Centre of Europe.
In the maze of alleys that unexpectedly end up in small squares, you will find historic shops and splendid residences, palaces of the 18th century full of works of art.

PORTOFINO
Portofino is only 10 nautical miles away from Genoa.
It not only a charming fishing village but also the haunt of the rich and famous with its designer boutiques, high-end restaurants and cafés.
After a relaxing day in the Tigullio gulf, you may climb up to Castel Brown, a 15th century fortress converted into a mansion for the British diplomat Montague Brown.
